Relational Therapy

What is relational therapy? Simply put, it is therapy between people in relational systems. This can include friendship therapy, couples therapy, throuples therapy, polycule therapy and many more. The connections between people in these systems can be platonic, romantic, sexual, logistical, and much more. I work with biological family systems on a case-by-case basis.
I work from a client-centered, non-carceral, and relational lens. Let’s break that down! Client-centered: I believe everyone in the relational system is the expert in their own life and is representing their own experience in the safest way they that is accessible to them in this moment. I work to build safety and value-alignment to allow more nuance and connection within communication. Non-carceral: I understand that the profession of social work is deeply rooted in white saviorism, settler colonialism, racism, and other forms of harm. I therefore work to provide resources, support, and conversations that are outside of or alternatives to that history of harm and current institutions that perpetuate similar harm. Relational: I believe each of us is made up of our relationships, whether they are platonic, romantic, familial, or our relationships to ourselves. I work with you to explore the meaning of those relationships and the ways in which you want to exist within them.
My specialties include sex therapy (see more on the sex therapy page), non-monogamy, gender identity, sexual orientation, life transitions, and self esteem. I also have familiarity and comfort with ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, infidelity, and substance use. Approaches I use include narrative, emotionally focused (EFT), internal family systems (IFS), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Gottman, and somatic therapy.
